Petition Beer Corner

Early this week, a few beer loving friends and I checked out the recently opened Petition Beer Corner. You’ve probably heard all about it by now and you’re probably pretty excited to check it out. I’d be getting pretty excited if I were you as it’s a pretty incredible looking venue, full of fantastic beer offerings!

A beautiful heritage building laced with exposed brick & minimal, simplistic furnishings set the scene; look a little further and you find the bar, or lack thereof. Some might find the lack of an actual bar a little confusing, but any confusion will quickly be cleared up by the friendly, attentive and most importantly, knowledgeable staff!

The beers on offer when we visited were pretty impressive and covered pretty much all the beery bases; from a massive Australian Whisky Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout, in the form of Boatrocker’s Ramjet, to a traditional Belgian Sour(Tilquin Gueuze) and plenty of local offerings from the likes of Feral Brewery & Indian Ocean Brewery. Basically there’s something for everyone, as a good beer venue should offer! Food was also decent and priced on par with most other comparable venues within the Perth CBD.

If you’re in the city and looking for a good beer, definitely consider popping into Petition and checking out what’s on offer. A word of warning though, these guys are going to be pretty busy during the week accommodating the post work crowd!

Petition is located within the State Buildings on the corner of St Georges Terrace & Barrack Street. Check out their Facebook or Website for more info!

Cellarbrations Carlisle x Bootleg Collaboration

Although the concept of collaboration in the beer world isn’t necessarily a new one, the idea of doing them is definitely picking up some serious pace here in Australia. From brewery x brewery partnerships to venue’s, distilleries, bottle-shops, cideries & even homebrewers getting in on some brotherly(or sisterly) brew love, we’re seeing some really cool stuff coming out of breweries that came about because of friendship & collaborative efforts.

These two beer institutes came together and conjured up Boss Taurus! A Whisky Barrel Aged Imperial Dark Ale that use a spent Limeburners Sherry cask and it’s a monster! Huge dark fruits absolutely dominate with sweet malt, vanilla & light spice kicking in half way through each sip. Hardly any of that 9.0% showing itself, but certainly making sure you know this bad boy was barrel aged in whisky barrels and means serious business!

On the back of that, I spoke to Cellarbrations At Carlisle manger Tim about the collaboration and the goings on at the store…

Tell us about the collaboration with Bootleg, it sounds pretty exciting!
The Bootleg Crew and the crew here have been friends for a while and we’ve talked about doing a beer together for ages! We wanted something big, and barrel aged and after long discussion we were stoked to do an imperial stout or dark ale! We also have some connections with Limeburners through Doreen Garces and they were happy to help with an ex-Sherry barrel which totally fit what we were after!
Is there any future collaborations, events ect. we can get excited about?
We’ve always got something on the go. We’ve got some idea’s but nothing I can say until its sorted beer wise. Events, we have our Meat the Brewers! event for WA Beer Week which consists of 8 breweries and their brewers coming along to showcase one beer each. The event will be held at Porky’s BBQ and Bar. It should be a lot of fun, and we think it fits our shops style, laid back talking to the brewers, heaps of great beers and heaps of great Meat! Breweries and brewers will include Bootleg, Moon Dog, Boston, Temple, Gage Roads, Nail, Matso’s and believe it or not Ken Grossman from Sierra Nevada! It’s an epic line up and epic food line up as well mate, keep an eye out for the event on the WA Beer Week Website or our Facebook Page!
Any future product releases, new breweries/venues you guys are excited to see hit WA?
Pretty stoked to see some of the huge stuff from our local dudes at WA Beer Week in particular. Can’t wait to get down to Petition and I basically haven’t left DTC, they are doing some great stuff for the beer scene in WA.
What are your personal beer picks from the shelves at the moment?
Loving Boatrocker’s Adventus, and I haven’t stopped loving their Banshee, that gets my juices following. We’ve just finished with Nail’s VPA and that was brilliant. Plus this new one called Boss Taurus is wicked…
Boss Taurus is available NOW and only at Cellarbrations At Carlisle until stock runs out! Visit them at 2 Wright street, Kewdale for a bottle of Boss Taurus and to scope out the rest o their extensive range, or visit their facebook/Website for more info!
